In A Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day....Chapter 3

It has been a really busy week and I have read Chapter 3, but haven't had a chance to post about it. When I got an email yesterday asking "Where is chapter 3?" I figured I had better get on that! I really appreciate those of you who faithfully read and comment. It encourages me to keep on sharing. Sometimes you wonder if what you have to say ever makes a hill of beans difference in anyone else's life. I pray that the words here on this blog will encourage and inspire your relationship with God in a new way. I know it hold me accountable to keep my relationship with God going strong. I pray that for all of us that we will "no longer be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds".

So, on that note....chapter THREE!!!

First, I realized that I haven't really shared with you what "chasing lions" is all about. Beneniah killed a lion in 2 Samuel 23:20-23. I am sure it was one of the scariest moments of his life, yet the most valiant and courageous thing he had ever done. This book is about facing our fears that keep us from doing something great for God and pushing through so that we can see God at work!

1. "Don't let mental lions keep you from experiencing everything God has to offer."

2. "Half of spiritual growth is learning what we don't know. The other half is unlearning what we do know.....Faith is unlearning the senseless worries and misguided beliefs that keep us captive." (Fears are learned. If they are learned, we can unlearn them. To do this, we must "download" the mind of Christ, which has no fear. We need to do some re-wiring.)

3. "Satan has two primary tactics when it comes to neutralizing you spiritually: discouragement and fear."

4. "Courage is doing what is right regardless of circumstances or consequences."

5. "When you put yourself into defenseless positions, it sets the stage for God to show up."

He talks about the fact that we go to theme parks and pay people money to scare us, because we have a need for that excitement and thrill in our life. That sense of danger gets our adrenaline pumping. Can you imagine if we were to harness that into doing things for God? Mark Batterson asks this question: "Are you living your life in a way that is worth telling stories about?" Beneniah had killed a lion. What a story to tell the grandchildren. What have you done great for God that is worth telling stories to your children/grandchildren about?
